Appointment of the New Director of Public Prosecutions for Northern Ireland

The Attorney General for Northern Ireland, John F Larkin QC, today appointed Stephen Herron LLB as the new Director of Public Prosecutions for Northern Ireland.

Stephen Herron is a solicitor with extensive experience in criminal law. Prior to his appointment he was serving as acting Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions.

Speaking about the appointment the Attorney General said:

"I am delighted to appoint Stephen Herron as the new Director of Public Prosecutions for Northern Ireland.  I have already had the pleasure of working with Stephen in his current role and in other senior roles within the PPS and I look forward to working with him as he shapes the Public Prosecution Service of the future.”

Commenting on his appointment, Stephen Herron said: "I am delighted to accept the post of Director of Public Prosecutions. I have worked in the Service for the last 15 years and it is an honour to have the opportunity to take on this role."
